Wyoming is a beautiful state with gorgeous landscapes such as the Eastern Rocky Mountains and the High Plains. It is one of our country's largest states in terms of size, but it only has a very small population. Because it is so sparse, nursing opportunities tend to be for those interested in rural communities. However, if you would prefer working in a larger city, you could choose to go to Cheyenne, which is the state capital and its largest city. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, just under 5,000 people work as registered nurses in Wyoming at present. Their average annual salary stands at $60,690. In order to be able to seek employment as a registered nurse, one must pass the NCLEX-RN examination. There is a significant shortage of nurses in the state at the present time, which means there are good job prospects. Additionally, there has been an amendment to the Wyoming Investment in Nursing program in order to address this shortage. Interestingly, it seems the state has a strong focus on true entry level positions and on those with higher education degrees. As such, there are many schools that offer an associate's degree in nursing, as well as many that offer master's programs and even doctorate degrees. However, only very few schools offer a bachelor of science in nursing program. In fact, there are currently only two schools that have these types of programs on offer. If you are considering studying towards your BSN degree in Wyoming, it is recommended that you contact the two schools below to review their offerings. As there are not many options out there, you may also want to consider going slightly further afield and perhaps studying just across the state border. One final option is to enroll in a distance learning or online program that can be accessed nationally.
